Bonding configurations in amorphous carbon and nitrogenated carbon films synthesised by femtosecond laser deposition

چکیده
The effect of nitrogen addition and laser fluence on the atomic structure of amorphous carbon films (a-C) synthesized by femtosecond pulsed laser deposition has been studied. The chemical bonding in the films was investigated by means of X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and Raman spectroscopies. XPS studies revealed a decrease in the sp3 bonded carbon sites and an associated increase in the N−sp2C bonding sites with increasing nitrogen content in the CNx films. An increase in laser fluence from 0.36 to 1.7 J/cm2 led to a rise in sp3C sites. These results were further confirmed by Raman spectroscopy. The ID/IG ratio increased monotonically and G line-width decreased with the increase of nitrogen content in the films indicating a rise in either the number or the size of the sp2 clusters. Furthermore a visible excitation wavelength dependence study established the resonant Raman process in a-C and CNx films. PACS 81.05.Uw; 81.15.Fg; 82.80

Near edge x-ray absorption fine structure study of aligned -bonded carbon structures in nitrogenated ta-C films
Polarization dependent studies of near edge x-ray absorption fine structure NEXAFS show evidence for the presence of aligned -bonded carbon structures and the formation of a nonplanar CN phase in tetrahedral amorphous nitrogenated carbon ta-CN films deposited at room temperature. Moreover, the analysis of NEXAFS data as a function of nitrogen concentration and annealing temperature leads to a c...
متن کاملPulsed laser deposited tetrahedral amorphous carbon with high sp3 fractions and low optical bandgaps
Amorphous carbon films with sp3 bonded carbon fractions over 70% are deposited by pulsed laser deposition. However, the optical bandgap obtained from optical transmittance and spectroscopic ellipsometry analysis shows the values to be below 1.0 eV. A wide range of measurements such as electron energy loss spectroscopy, visible Raman, spectroscopic ellipsometry, optical transmittance, and electr...

We studied composition, structure, and growth parameters of amorphous diamond-like carbon ~DLC! and carbon nitride (CNx) films deposited by pulsed laser deposition in vacuum and in nitrogen atmosphere. The composition (0<N/C<0.4), the structural and the electronic properties of the deposited carbon and carbon nitride films were investigated for different laser fluences ~1–12 J/cm!. Electron ene...
متن کاملLow temperature internal friction of diamond-like carbon films
We have studied the internal friction of amorphous diamond-like carbon films prepared by pulsed-laser deposition from 0.4 to 300K. The low temperature internal friction below 10K is dominated by the atomic tunnelling states for amorphous solids, which is a measure of structure disorder. We have tried to vary the content of sp carbon atoms versus sp ones by changing laser fleunce, by doping with...

Hard carbon thin films were synthesized on Si (100) and quartz substrates by the Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) technique in vacuum or methane ambient to study their suitability for applications requiring high mechanical resistance. The deposited films’ surface morphology was investigated by scanning electron microscopy, crystalline status by X-ray diffraction, packing and density by X-ray refle...
